European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) Implementation Directive

Article 1- This Directive is gorunds on DEU Short Cycle and First Cycle Education and Exmanination Frame Directive Article 35.
Article 2- This directive articles will be exerted for preparation of transcripts and diploma supplements that prove the academic achievements of the Turkish and foreign students who attend to DEU short cycle, first cycle and graduate programs
Article 3- European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is an acreditation system developed by EU Education and Culture Directorate General to support student mobility and allow the academic acreditation by transfering the credits that students complete in an higher institution to another, locally or internationaly.
ECTS is a kind of common language for determining the workloads of the students and transferring the scores which differ due to the education and scoring system in various countries. Hence, and ECTS credit is determined for each course and the scores are transferred to DEU Scoring System according to ECTS system and the related article of this Directive
Article 4- ECTS credit is a value that the student work load covers all the time that the students spend for: the course times, workshops, clinical trainings, assignments, presentations, exam preparations, exams, workplace trainings, thesis preparations briefly all the activities for the course. This value shows the percentage of the workload for a specific course in the total workloaded needed to complete an academic year in any higher institution.
Article 5- ECTS crediting is based on the semesters. In higher education institutions that use semester as the basic period, one semester is equivalent to minimum 30 ECTS credits. In higher education institutions that use academic year (2 semesters) as the basic period, one academic year is equivalent to minimum 60 ECTS credits. If the institution’s academic year covers 3 periods in one academic year, then each period is deemed as 20 ECTS credits. One ECTS credit is equivalent to approximately 25-30 hours of student workload
Article 6- The department’s/program’s all education program is taken into account while calculating the ECTS credit of a course. A certain credit is assigned to each learning outcome (knowledge, skills, understanding) and competency that a student must achieve for every course.
Article 7- One ECTS credit is calculated according to the workload that a student must spent for the learning outcomes and it is presented to the University Senate for approval upon the related institution management decision. The ECTS credit is a whole number. However, in case of crutial need, it maybe a decimal number
Article 8- Student maybe allowed to have education for one or two semesters to institıtions in other countries via mobility programs in accordance with the bilateral agreements between two institutions. The student pays the tution fee at home university for that period and this peirod is included (counted) in the normal education period.
Article 9- The mobile students are responsible from the hosting institution courses instead of home institution courses.The selection of the courses are guided by the student advisors, approved by related program and institution management.
Article 10- The ECTS scores of the courses that the students achieve during mobility can be evaluated in guidance with the DEU Short and First Cycle Education and Examination Frame Directive Article 23 and tje related ECTS crediting system.
Article 11- DEU recognizes the ECTS credits of the admitted students, which they have achieved in other institutions (local/ international)
Article 12- DEU has the right to decide on every issue regrading the success of the exchange program students.
Non Provisional Cases
Article 13- DEU Short and First Cycle Education and Examination Directive provisions and DEU Graduate Programs Education and Examination Drective provions and EU Education and Youth Programs Center’s (National Agency) “LLP Erasmus Application Manual” provisions are applied in cases which this directive does not cover.
Article 14-This Directive is effective after it is approved by DEU Senate.
Article 15- This Directive is executed by DEU Rector.
